Cloffice

Welcome to the international headquarters of design finch, Inc! I thought I’d show you were all the magic happens, but in order to truly appreciate the space you need to see the complete transformation. While I enjoy sharing an office with my hubby, our previous workspace was really cramped, inefficient and lacked storage for books and supplies. The office has a decent-sized closet, but without adequate shelving it was mostly wasted space. This is what the closet looked like shortly after we moved in…..

Cloffice Before and After

…..and this is what it looks like today! We removed the existing shelf and clothes bar, painted the interior of the closet gray, then installed white and platinum Elfa shelving from the Container Store. Since the shelving goes all the way to the ceiling, there is plenty of room to store my books, design magazines, paper samples, etc. I lovingly call it my “Cloffice” (closet + office).

Cloffice Interior

The shelving on the left houses my all-in-one printer/scanner/copier/fax, along with office supplies. Rolls of wrapping paper are tucked way in the back, yet still easily accessible.

Cloffice Closed

The best part of all is that I can close the doors when I’m done working and just walk away.

This is the COOLEST closet I’ve ever seen! So fun and beautiful! Thanks for the comment on my blog :-) I’ve been perusing yours and, um…. the menu you create every week??? You’ve seriously got me beat on that one. I’m going to do a post this week about menu planning, so can I post a link to that super sweet menu you make?

@Katie Norwood: Thanks for the sweet comment, Katie! You can absolutely link to my menu, but if we’re “keepin’ it real”, I must confess that my menu rarely looks that cute. Usually it’s just some recipes scribbled on the back of an old receipt but, hey, it works just the same!

Greetings on this very cold morning in Wisconsin! I absolutely LUV your “cloffice” and would like to copy your idea. This would enable me to “hide” a messy desk when necessary and still have a neat & tidy TV room. I believe I have nearly same closet in my home office/TV room. Would you mind sharing the dimensions of your “cloffice”? I want to be sure I have the space. Many thanks in advance!!

@Laurice: Hi, Laurice! Thanks for visiting my blog. The great thing about Elfa is it’s a modular system that can fit almost any space. I don’t remember the exact dimensions of my cloffice, but I highly recommend the space planning tool on Container Store’s web site: http://www.containerstore.com/elfa/plan/getStarted.htm. Their designers will help you choose the right shelving components based on the dimensions you provide and email you a customized plan. Here’s a tip: Elfa usually goes on sale for 25-30% off twice a year (August and January). The in-store planners are really swamped during that time, so get your plan online to avoid waiting in long lines. I’d love to see before and after pictures when you’re done!

  9. Hi there!
Stopping by from Kellys Korner. You have the exact same set up as my best friend. I agree, if you don’t have the room utilize a closet.

    Take care,
    Viola

  11. Wow! That’s awesome! That’s were I started. But mine was located underneath the stairwell. I had to turn my shoulders to get into it. Now I’ve worked my way into a downtown office. Still small, but I’m making it happen. Sweet stuff. It’s always good to see Big Ideas in small spaces.
